13th to 15th October 2009 | Budapest, Hungary

Following the EURoma Summit in Brussels on 16 September 2008, the Commission committed to organise a series of High Level Events in the Member States on the most effective ways to use resources from the structural funds in order to improve the conditions of the Roma. The overriding objective of these High-Level Events is to draw together the wide-ranging actions and initiatives taken by different governments and international organisations, as well as non-governmental organisations and Roma-support bodies, and to explore how best this wealth of experience can help to channel the Structural Fund’s resources in order to improve the social and economic situation of the Roma.

The first of these events will take place in Hungary in October (13-15 October).

We are expecting the Hungarian Prime Minister, Mr Gordon Bajnai, and Commissioner Špidla to open the event. This event will be the first of its kind, and will be followed by similar events in other Member States with significant Roma population.

The visit will last three consecutive days: the high-level event which will take place in Budapest will be matched with events in Pécs, Szeged, Debrecen and Miskolc on the second day (14th October), as well as project visits on the 3rd day (15th October).

All EURoma partners are invited to participate in this event, also with a view to gaining experience for the second event, which it is expected to be held during the first semester of 2010.
