The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will organise a public hearing to collect stakeholders’ views on the exploratory opinion it is preparing at the request of the Hungarian EU Presidency on the Societal empowerment and the integration of Roma citizens in Europe. The EESC is expected to adopt the opinion at its plenary session on 15-16 June 2011. Â
This is part of the Presidency’s horizontal approach to the social integration of the Roma, which has become the objective of all sectoral policies concerned. The Committee opinion will contribute to the framework strategy on the social integration of the Roma, which will be adopted at the June 2011 European Council meeting building upon the Communication released by the European Commission on 5 April.
